Combination No. 2

  • Justin Jefferson – WR (LSU)

  • Austin Jackson – OT (USC)

Adding a wide receiver needs to be at the forefront of the Vikings’ minds early in this year’s NFL Draft. Yes, it’s a deep class but if they can land one of the top options, that says a lot about the quality of the player they are getting.

Justin Jefferson is a receiver who is ready to produce on day one and he could be a dangerous weapon working out of the slot for Minnesota.

He’s got everything the Vikings would want in a receiver with 4.4 speed and good size at 6-foot-1. He’s coming off a crazy productive season where he racked up over 1,500 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns.

It wouldn’t take him long to become one of Kirk Cousins‘ favorite targets and one of his more trusted options in the passing game. Jefferson would likely give Minnesota a quick return on their investment with the 22nd choice.

After adding Jefferson, the Vikings could double-dip with offensive prospects at pick No. 25 and land their left tackle of the future.

Austin Jackson has the measurables teams are looking for in a future left tackle, as he’s 6-foot-5 and 322 pounds. He proved during this year’s NFL Scouting Combine that he’s got plenty of strength in both his upper and lower body. He is also a fluid athlete who moves well from side-to-side and he gets out of his stance in a hurry.

Minnesota could take Jackson and immediately plug him in at left tackle. They could then look to either move Riley Reiff to left guard or just flat out release him and gain some extra cap space.

Landing these two players in the first round would be a huge boost to Minnesota’s offense. They do have needs on defense, but they should be able to find adequate safety and cornerback help in the second and third rounds.
