Has Rick Spielman’s free agency start boosted his contract hopes?

If Rick Spielman is fighting for a new contract with the Minnesota Vikings, then this free agency period could decide whether this becomes a reality.
The Minnesota Vikings have made some bold moves during the early stages of free agency ahead of general manager Rick Spielman’s final year of his current deal.
A host of moves have already been made by the Vikings as they look to fight for their second consecutive postseason berth. There was plenty of work to do for the decision-makers within the organization heading into this crucial period, with Minnesota having just $1 million in cap space to work with.
Spielman and the rest of the staff deserve an enormous amount of credit for the moves they have made so far during an extremely busy period. They have been typically bold and at least look like they have a chance to remain competitive in the NFC.
A lot more will need to be done in order for the Vikings to call this period of the offseason a success. Minnesota has made a promising start and this will bode well for the general manager as he seeks a long-term extension of his own.
Both Spielman and head coach Mike Zimmer has plenty still to prove despite their tenor in Minnesota coming with some notable achievements without ever reaching the Super Bowl. The decisions they make in the coming weeks will go a long way to determining whether or not they will be granted an extended stay with the Vikings.
