What would Davis bring to the Vikings?
The Vikings need some youthful exuberance on the defensive line following the departure of Linval Joseph. Davis appears to be a ready-made replacement and one that can be a day-one starter.
He is a stout run defender that would fit in tremendously with Mike Zimmer’s ethos. Davis has heavy hands and he can plug the gaps in the running game exceptionally.
Davis’ apparent lack of motivation during his senior year has left him underdeveloped. He needs significant work on his pass-rushing skills and he needs more experience in timing his rushes against more experienced opposition in the NFL.
If he can do this, the Vikings are going to have a real player on their hands if they decide to select Davis. Putting him on a defensive front that could consist of Michael Pierce, Danielle Hunter, Shamar Stephen, and Ifeadi Odenigbo would allow Davis some additional space to work with.
This would do his chances of making an instant impact in Minnesota a world of good. Davis has plenty of tools at his disposal to produce consistently in the pros. But the effort and commitment will need to be there for a head coach that takes no prisoners when it comes to underperforming players.
Should the Vikings draft Davis, then they would be getting a vastly talented individual with an excellent skill-set. There will be plenty to work with regarding a prospect who has the best years ahead of him.
Minnesota co-defensive coordinator Andre Patterson has worked wonders with current members of the team’s defensive line and this would also be a good sign for Davis’ future if he were to land with the Vikings.
