Why the Vikings should move up to draft CeeDee Lamb
By Dean Jones
Is Lamb worth the risk?
Every move up in the NFL Draft is a risk, but CeeDee Lamb’s potential is going to make him an instant star.
He is one of the best wide receiver prospects to come out of college in recent memory. Lamb has good speed, he is an elite route runner, and he has hand-eye coordination that will make your jaw drop.
This is an area of significant need for the Vikings following the loss of Stefon Diggs. Pro Bowl wide receiver Adam Thielen had his problems with injury last season and the less pressure put on his shoulders, the better.
Rookie receivers come with their own teething problems. But Lamb’s potential and transferable skills should ensure any complications during his adjustment to the NFL will be minimal.
He has a unique ability to take the top off a defense down the field or gain much-needed yards on short and intermediate routes. He is also a lot stronger than he looks and has little trouble getting off the line of scrimmage against opposing cornerbacks in press coverage.
This is a closing window for the Vikings and they will need to make a real statement during this year’s draft. Picking players at the top end that can contribute right away is absolutely essential and this should ensure Lamb is an option for the organization.
One would suspect that this move would be extremely well received by a Minnesota fan base that has more questions than answers following a series of high-profile departures during so far this offseason.
