Hill’s strengths

Holton Hill has bundles of enthusiasm and drive that make him a solid fit in Mike Zimmer’s defensive scheme. The Vikings have had a tremendous amount of success with undrafted or late-round draft picks in recent years and Hill is another that the team hopes can be very useful.

He covers well on both intermediate routes and down the field. Hill is also a willing tackler and not many get the better of him in that respect.

He also has a high football IQ and he reads the game very well. He has made some mistakes off the field, but this should not take away from what he has achieved on it during his two seasons as a pro.

Coming into the Vikings’ cornerback situation midway through last season was not ideal. Hill was never going to make much of an impact with so little game-time and more will be expected of him in 2020.

There is no doubt that Hill could push for a starting role next season. He has all the skills needed to make a success of his career. Although he needs to brush up certain areas of his game, the player is still a relative puppy in NFL terms and at 22-years-old there is plenty of scope for further improvement.

How the Vikings use Hill next season will go a long way to determining whether or not he has the capability to be a long-term starter in the league.
