8 best performances by a Vikings WR in their first 5 seasons with the team
By Tim Arcand
1. Randy Moss (1998 – 2002)
- 80 games
- 414 receptions
- 6,743 yards
- 60 touchdowns
If Cris Carter’s ranking on this list surprises no one, then certainly there is no suspense as to who is at the very top.
The Vikings selected Randy Moss with the 21st overall pick in the 1998 draft. Feeling he should have been drafted much higher, Moss was determined to show the world the mistake many teams made.
As a rookie, he led Minnesota in receiving yards and the NFL in touchdowns with 17. His presence helped to propel the top offense in the league that season as the Vikings finished with a 15-1 record.
Playing alongside Carter, Moss led the team in receiving yards in each of his first five years with Minnesota. His 60 touchdowns are almost twice as much as the next closest receiver in this ranking and his yardage total is 2,023 more than Anthony Carter’s, who has the second-most at 4,720 yards.
The only reason Cris Carter tops all franchise records for receiving is the fact that Moss only played eight seasons total with the Vikings. No other receiver comes close to the impact he had in his first five years with Minnesota. Along with Adam Thielen, Moss played with seven different quarterbacks, the most in the ranking.
As good as Stefon Diggs has been for the Vikings over the last five seasons, there is no comparison to what Moss accomplished during his time in purple.
