Jeff Gladney – CB (TCU)

This isn’t so much a knock on Jeff Gladney as he’s a very talented football player, but there’s just this group of corners after Jeff Okudah, C.J. Henderson, and maybe Kristian Fulton, who are all ranked very closely.

In various mock drafts around the internet, sometimes it’s Gladney that’s selected at pick No. 25 by the Vikings. But other times it’s Trevon Diggs, A.J. Terrell, Jaylon Johnson, or Noah Igbinoghene.

If there are that many viable corners available for Minnesota to choose from in the first round, why not wait and address a different need that isn’t from a position group that is so deep?

The Vikings would be wise to wait and see what falls to them in the second round instead. If a run on corners does happen well before they are on the clock in the first round, Minnesota always has the ammunition of extra draft picks to swing a deal and move up to get the best one left on the board.

Gladney, as stated earlier, is a talented cover man and he would likely start for the team as a rookie in the slot. He can make a play on the ball in the air, he has great overall speed, and he is an aggressive blitzer who can lay a big hit.

The biggest issue is that he only measured at 5-foot-10 at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine. It would be extremely hard to believe the Vikings would use a first-round pick on a cornerback who is always going to be physically outmatched on the field.
