Bisi Johnson has a huge opportunity with the Minnesota Vikings next season as he looks to build on a strong rookie campaign.

There was plenty to like about the rookie season of Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bisi Johnson. He has a massive opportunity for a larger role in 2020 if he takes his game to a new level.

The former seventh-round pick out of Colorado State benefitted enormously from playing behind the prolific wide receiver duo Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. More will be expected from Johnson in 2020 after Diggs was recently traded to the Buffalo Bills for a wealth of draft picks, including the 22nd overall selection this year.

This leaves a big opening on Minnesota’s depth chart and it will be up to someone like Johnson to prove he is worthy of filling the void. The Vikings have brought in an additional reinforcement in free-agent Tajae Sharpe, but more is needed either from the remainder of free agency or the NFL Draft. Johnson knows the system and he has the additional benefit of developed chemistry with Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Johnson is the most recent late-round selection by the Vikings that has made a real impact on the roster. Generally, the second season for a wide receiver in the NFL is one of progression, so all signs point to him taking a step forward.

Much will also depend on the type of player Minnesota brings in between now and the start of OTAs this spring. They are in prime position to draft a top-end receiver this year if they wish, which would see Johnson’s hopes of securing more time on the field diminish.
