Mims’ college career

Denzel Mims had a fantastic college career at Baylor that saw him emerge as one of the standout wide receivers in the country.

The young pass-catcher did not see much of the field as a freshman for the Bears in 2016. Mims caught just four balls for 24 yards from his 11 appearances as he adjusted to life within the college system.

He more than made up for this lack of involvement in 2017 with a sensational leap forward. The receiver posted lofty numbers during a season that saw Mims rack up 1,087 yards and eight touchdowns.

This came off 61 receptions and an eye-catching 17.1 yards-per-catch average. Mims made the most out of his starting opportunity and became a trusted target with game-changing ability.

Mims backed this up with a solid junior year in 2018. Although he did not hit the heights statistically of his sophomore campaign, he coped well with the extra attention that came his way to attain 794 yards and eight touchdowns from 55 receptions.

If the player was in need of a mini-bounce back season as a senior, then he achieved that and more. Mims was virtually unstoppable throughout 2019, posting career highs in touchdowns (12) and receptions (66).

He managed to acquire 1,020 receiving yards despite being double covered for large parts of the season. This outstanding level of performance saw Mims selected to the First Team All-Big 12 line-up and saw his NFL Draft ambitions surge.
