After recently trading his brother, Stefon, to the Buffalo Bills, the Minnesota Vikings likely won’t be selecting Trevon Diggs in this year’s NFL Draft.
Right before the relationship ended, it seemed like a departure between Stefon Diggs and the Minnesota Vikings was pretty much inevitable.
Diggs’ frustrations with the Vikings weren’t getting any better during the offseason and it eventually led to the team trading him to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for multiple draft picks. With these additional selections, Minnesota is going to have a number of options heading into this year’s NFL Draft.
Prior to dealing their star receiver, some believed the Vikings would be interested in drafting his younger brother, Trevon Diggs, this year. The former Alabama cornerback fits a lot of Minnesota’s current needs and he has the skills to make an instant impact as a rookie in the NFL.
Even with the Vikings’ decision to trade Stefon, some still believed Trevon could be a possibility for Minnesota this year with one of their two first-round picks. However, this does not appear to be the case.
When he was recently asked about the possibility of the Vikings drafting the younger Diggs in a few weeks, NFL Network’s Charles Davis said, “more than likely, he’s not under consideration for Minnesota,” according to the Pioneer Press’ Chris Tomasson.
This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Not only does Diggs probably have no desire to be drafted by the Vikings after they traded his brother, but Minnesota likely just wants to distance themselves from their former receiver as much as possible.
It’s disappointing since the former Alabama corner probably could’ve helped the Vikings out a lot in 2020. But sometimes these things get in the way and Minnesota just has to move on.
Luckily, there are a number of other talented cornerback prospects available in this year’s draft and missing out on Diggs isn’t something that should cause any members of the Vikings front office to lose sleep.
