Trade No. 3

  • Second-round pick (No. 58)

Another option worth considering is to try and convince the Redskins to take on Riley Reiff’s deal as part of a trade involving Trent Williams.

The Vikings offering a short-term alternative at the left tackle spot and this year’s second-round draft pick might be enough to get a deal done. Reiff performed well last season, but he comes with a $13.2 million cap hit next year and a $13.95 million hit in 2021.

He was a prime candidate for release this year given the $8.8 million that Minnesota would save by terminating Reiff’s contract. He has so far managed to remain on the roster, but moving him in favor of Williams is a mouth-watering proposition.

Whether Washington would want to be on the hook for the Reiff deal remains to be seen. It would provide the franchise with an experienced tackle that can give second-year quarterback Dwayne Haskins or Kyle Allen a solid presence in Williams’ absence.

This scenario also gives the Vikings with some much-needed funds for Williams, who is set to make $12.5 million in base salary during the final year of his current deal. The talented blocker is looking for an extension, with Spotrac projecting him to command a $15.2 million in annual salary on a three-year, $45.7 million deal.

Minnesota has little wiggle room financially at the moment, so convincing Washington to take on Reiff’s double-digit deal is the best possible situation in any potential trade.
