Head coach Mike Zimmer is still waiting on a contract extension from the Minnesota Vikings, but what could be the reasons behind the hold-up?

The Minnesota Vikings are going into the 2020 season with plenty of questions surrounding their future. This also includes their head coach Mike Zimmer.

The former Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator is currently in the final year of his deal with the Vikings. A new contract was supposed to be heading Zimmer’s way this offseason, which makes it strange that nothing has been finalized.

Zimmer’s time with Minnesota has been littered with fine achievements. The head coach installed a grit and determination within the setup that has been a trademark of his career so far.

Although the Vikings have yet to reach a Super Bowl under his tenor, there has been plenty to like about the way his team has performed. They managed to make the playoffs last season and upset the odds to reach the divisional round after a memorable overtime win over the New Orleans Saints in the first round.

Minnesota would ultimately fall short of their objective once again and it remains to be seen whether they can make another postseason run in 2020 with so many changes in personnel.

If Zimmer does not receive a contract extension before the season starts, he will be fighting for his job during what could be the final window year for this particular group of players on the Vikings’ roster.
