Can Smith continue his elite production?

Harrison Smith is still one of the most important players on the Vikings roster. He sets the tempo on defense and is the prime organizer either in the secondary or on the line of scrimmage.

The player has been incredibly consistent during his time with the franchise. It doesn’t seem like this is slowing down anytime soon, which can only mean good things going forward.

The Vikings have plenty of questions surrounding their roster, but Smith isn’t one of them. His reliability, versatility, and ability to produce consistently are going to be a massive asset for at least the length of his current contract.

All the signs point to another Pro Bowl-caliber year for Smith. Much will depend on how Minnesota strengthens their cornerback area in the coming weeks and it might determine how far they can go overall.

One thing is certain, the Vikings will get nothing less than a 100-percent commitment from Smith. His passion for the game is unrivaled and this will need to continue in order for others around him to up their efforts on and off the field.

If Anthony Harris sticks around for an extended period of time, then it could also see Smith’s career extended. Having such a dependable presence alongside him can take the pressure off somewhat. But Smith will still need to become the undisputed leader of the Vikings in 2020.

Smith should thrive with this extra responsibility. Whether it will be enough to get Minnesota back to the playoffs remains to be seen.
