Beckham’s NFL career

Odell Beckham Jr. has definitely lived up to the hype after being selected 12th overall by the New York Giants in the 2014 NFL Draft.

He quickly propelled himself into the limelight with a sensation rookie campaign that ended with 91 receptions, 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns from just 12 games. Beckham was being compared to former Minnesota Vikings great Randy Moss, such was the impression he made in his first year as a professional.

Beckham Jr. won the 2014 Offensive Rookie of the Year and built on this in his sophomore season. The wide receiver grabbed 96 of 158 targets on his way to a career-high 1,450 yards and 13 touchdowns. His ability to make difficult improbable catches propelled him further into the spotlight and into the discussion for the most exciting player in the NFL.

The player reached the 100-reception milestone in 2016, securing 101 for 1,367 yards and ten touchdowns. Things did not go according to plan the following season as injury restricted Beckham to just four appearances, 25 receptions, 302 yards, and three touchdowns.

His frustrations in New York came to the fore during 2018 during a campaign that was not without its injury concerns. Beckham played 12 games for the Giants during his final year with the franchise, notching 1,052 yards and six touchdowns from 77 receptions.

Despite still producing on the field, it was clear the player’s time with the organization was at an end. Beckham was traded to the Cleveland Browns for the 17th and 95th picks last year, in addition to safety Jabrill Peppers.

The Giants used this draft capital to select defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence and defensive end Oshane Ximines.
