Seventh Round (Pick No. 254)
Shea Patterson – QB (Michigan)
Shea Patterson was a highly touted prospect coming out of high school. Unfortunately, that didn’t come to fruition during his college career.
He’s still a high-ceiling type of developmental prospect that the Vikings could use to try and mold something out of. He’s shown some flashes of a really solid deep ball. He does well to sense pressure in the pocket and he has the footwork to be able to climb and deliver a solid pass.
His short-area quickness is pretty good for a quarterback. He can adjust his arm angle depending on the pressure in his face and still deliver a strike. He beats defenses with his ability to find holes in zone coverage.
While Patterson may not crack the initial roster, he’ll still be a valuable piece to have on a practice squad. He’s not going to push Kirk Cousins for the starting job anytime soon and he may not push for backup duties either this year. But there is certainly a spot for him to develop into a quality player.
