Third Round (Pick No. 105)

Alohi Gilman – S (Notre Dame)

Alohi Gilman is a safety who plays extremely fast and with a hot motor. He’s always flying around the field and he will play until the whistle blows.

He’s a physical player who isn’t afraid to pop you in the mouth on every play. He’s a strong tackler and he brings that same strength and physicality when he’s taking on blockers. He does well to create displacement from guys trying to throw a block on him.

He’s aggressive at attacking the football when he’s going in to make a tackle. He creates a lot of turnovers by ripping the ball away from the ball carrier. He’s strong in coverage when he’s rerouting receivers and creating positive leverage for himself.

The Vikings are in need of another safety to play behind the two All-Pro’s Anthony Harris and Harrison Smith. We are getting into the rounds where teams have to start acquiring positive depth and Gilman gives that to Minnesota.

He’s also a guy who can play in the slot and drop down in the box to play the box safety role. He can fill Jayron Kearse’s role since he departed this offseason.
