Heading into the 2020 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings have a handful of needs they will be looking to fill with the 12 selections they currently have.
Thanks to them sending Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills earlier this offseason, wide receiver is now a much bigger need for the Vikings as they prepare for this year’s draft. Luckily for Minnesota, the 2020 class of receiving prospects is supposed to be one of the deepest of any position group available this year.

In return for trading Diggs to the Bills, the Vikings landed another first-round pick in the 2020 draft. It’s possible Minnesota could use one of their two selections in the first round on a new receiver and one guy they might have their eyes on spent his college career playing at Baylor.
Denzel Mims would love to be selected by the Minnesota Vikings in this year’s NFL Draft.
With 28 touchdown catches in his last three seasons at Baylor combined with some outstanding numbers at the NFL Scouting Combine a few weeks ago, Denzel Mims could potentially end up being a first-round pick in the draft later this month.
If he does come off the board in the first round this year, it’s not expected to be until the bottom third of the round, which happens to be right where Minnesota’s top two selections are located.
During Mims’ time at the Senior Bowl back in January, the young receiver was asked if there was a favorite player or team he had growing up.
"“My favorite team has always been the Minnesota Vikings.”"
Mims was then asked how he ended up becoming a fan of the Vikings, especially since he grew up in Texas.
"“I was young and I saw the team on TV one day and they were purple. I was like okay, I like purple so I’m going to go with that team.”"
So it seems safe to say it would be a dream come true if the former Baylor receiver were to be selected by Minnesota in the upcoming NFL Draft.
At 6-foot-3 and 207 pounds, Mims has a lot to offer for whatever team ends up drafting him. He ran his 40-yard dash in 4.38 seconds during this year’s Combine and The Draft Network has him ranked as the eighth-best receiver in this year’s class of pass-catching prospects.
Mims has some things he can improve like route-running and reducing his drops. But this is the case with most prospects and it shouldn’t take long for him to improve these aspects of his game once he lands on an NFL roster.
Don’t bet on the Vikings using one of their two first-round picks to select Mims this year. But if he’s still on the board when it comes time for Minnesota to make their choice in the second round, the young receiver might get the opportunity to put on the purple and gold jersey just like some of the guys he grew up watching on TV.
