How will Linval Joseph’s legacy with the Vikings be remembered?
By Dean Jones
What legacy does Joseph leave behind in Minnesota?
Linval Joseph largely lived up to expectations during his time with the Minnesota Vikings. Even though he suffered a down year in 2018, the player bounced back well last term and can be proud of his accomplishments with the franchise.
Although the Vikings did not reach an elusive Super Bowl during his time with the organization, Joseph made two Pro Bowls and became part of a defensive front that was among the best in the NFL. He became an instant favorite with the Minnesota fanbase thanks to his enthusiastic nature and ability to make big plays consistently.
Father time waits for no man, so a dip in production was to be expected from a player that has nine seasons in the NFL under his belt. Getting a new team so quickly during free agency was a testament to how much of an impact he has made during his time in the pros so far.
He leaves a legacy of mainly good play. But given the money he was set to make in 2020 there was no other alternative than to release him from his deal.
This is the unfortunate business of the NFL and the Vikings got themselves into a financial hole by rewarding roster members large contracts that they failed to live up to.
That unwanted distinction does not fall on Joseph. His upturn in production was just what the Minnesota Vikings needed and it is sure to be missed next season.
