Third Round (No. 89 overall)

Van Jefferson – WR (Florida)

Van Jefferson not only has a name that you would expect to hear on your local oldies station, but he’s a solid wide receiver prospect. Although he’ll turn 24 by Week 1 of next year, Jefferson has a lot of the qualities that the Vikings lost when they traded Stefon Diggs.

The first thing you’ll notice about Jefferson is his route-running ability. While few players can run routes like Diggs can, Jefferson can get off his man quickly, leaving him in the dust and creating opportunities to get the ball in his hands.

While he’s not a burner, his initial movements help him get open deep, which is something that would play right into Minnesota’s opportunistic offense.

There are some things that Jefferson will need to improve quickly, however, as he tends to get bowled over at the first sign of contact. His production at Florida wasn’t the greatest either, but his collegiate career was marred with sub-par quarterback situations with the Gators and during his freshman and sophomore seasons at Ole Miss.

Still, if the Vikings can smooth out the edges, Jefferson could be a nice steal in the third round.
