Essang Bassey – CB (Wake Forest)

Measurements:

  • Height: 5-foot-9 | Weight: 191 pounds

2019 Stats:

  • 60 tackles
  • 11 pass breakups
  • 1 interception

Essang Bassey is another player who projects as a nickel corner in the NFL, but he can be a very solid player in that role.

He was a do-it-all cornerback for Wake Forest during his career, playing all over the secondary. He put up numbers across the board and he proved that he can be a productive defender in the NFL.

After taking a larger role in 2017, Bassey recorded at least 60 tackles, one interception, and 11 pass breakups every season. He does a great job of staying on his back foot to pounce on underneath throws and limit yardage over the middle.

Bassey attacks the football while staying on his toes and flipping his hips at the right moment. He has the size and physical ability to play in the slot as he jumps to the NFL. That also takes away his biggest concern, which is deep coverage and staying involved down the field.
