Sixth Round (Pick No. 201)

Trevis Gipson – EDGE (Tulsa)

Darrell Taylor was a nice find for the Vikings earlier in this draft and they would be happy to bring him in. Another player they can find a bit later is Tulsa’s Trevis Gipson. Gipson is similar to Taylor in that he is a raw pass rusher with physical traits and tools to salivate over.

Gipson measured in at 6-foot-3 and 261 pounds with nearly 34-inch arms at the NFL Combine. He uses his length much to his advantage while setting up various rush moves off the edge. One thing that always stood out was his ability to use powerful attacks into the chest and set up an outside spin.

His length is wonderful for what he does as a pass rusher. He can use his reach to generate power into the chest of blockers while also having the arms to rip under and win that way instead. Gipson closes on the ball well and likes to strip the quarterback as he pulls back to fire. He finished his career with eight forced fumbles.

This is a value that offers high upside at a small price for the Minnesota Vikings as they work to replenish their pass-rushing weapons.
