Denzel Mims – WR (Baylor)

The Vikings landed a stud receiver in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. There was doubt about whether or not Justin Jefferson would fall to pick No. 22 for Minnesota. But after the Philadelphia Eagles took the undersized, but speedy, Jalen Reagor at pick No. 21, Jefferson became available.

At pick No. 25, the 49ers swapped selections with the Vikings and took Brandon Aiyuk. This was a move that ultimately caused Denzel Mims to still be on the board for Day 2 of the draft on Friday night.

Mims is an exceptional talent with rare physical traits. He is 6-foot-3 and he ran a 4.37-second time in the 40-yard dash at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine.

He was extremely productive in his Baylor career catching 186 passes for nearly 3,000 yards and 28 touchdowns. It’s hard to find a guy with this type of size who runs so fast and it was assumed by some that he’d be taken on the first night of this year’s draft.

Despite taking Jefferson at pick No. 22, the Vikings could definitely double-dip at the position. Minnesota only signed Tajae Sharpe to a one-year deal this offseason and their depth chart after Bisi Johnson is very suspect.

Minnesota likely wouldn’t move up for Mims, but if he fell to them at pick No. 58, he’d be awfully hard to pass on. A receiving corps of Adam Thielen, Tajae Sharpe, Justin Jefferson, Bisi Johnson, and Denzel Mims would be light years ahead of what the Vikings put on the field a season ago.
