A.J. Epenesa – DE (Iowa)

The Vikings have to add another pass rusher early in the 2020 NFL Draft. Yes, they are set at the top with the great Danielle Hunter and the emerging Ifeadi Odenigbo. The concern though is that if one of them gets hurt, Minnesota will be in major trouble.

The depth behind these two guys is horrifying as there’s the unproven Eddie Yarbrough, a journeyman in Anthony Zettel, and nothing else. These two have a combined 8.5 sacks in their NFL careers.

The Vikings would love to use a fairly early pick to improve their depth at this extremely important position and they should be thrilled to see Iowa’s A.J. Epenesa still on the board during Day 2.

Epenesa is not a workout warrior and he is a much better football player than an athlete. This could be a big reason why he’s still on the board after the first round as his physical traits aren’t going to impress anyone. What is impressive though is his overall effort and production at Iowa.

Epenesa had 36 tackles for a loss and 26.5 sacks in his career as a Hawkeye. He’s a high energy player whose motor doesn’t quit and he constantly battles.

His work ethic will endear him to his coaches and his playmaking will endear him to the fans of the team that drafts him. If his descent continues, the chances seem high that Minnesota could snap him up at pick No. 58.
