Tyler Johnson – WR (Minnesota)

Sure this may be a bit of a homer pick, but the Vikings have already shown they aren’t afraid to double-dip in this year’s NFL Draft at a position they consider to be weak in. They did it when they selected a cornerback in both the first round and the third round, so they could certainly do that at receiver as well.

Minnesota is in fairly good shape with their current group of pass-catchers with Adam Thielen, Tajae Sharpe, Justin Jefferson, and Bisi Johnson. Sharpe is only signed for one year though and getting another big physical receiver like Tyler Johnson would be a huge score.

Johnson is 6-foot-1 and 206 pounds, but with his wide upper body, he looks much bigger on the field. He’s got a sure pair of hands and he is a gamer who plays big on big stages.

Johnson isn’t a burner by any means, but he is deceptively fast. He’s also great at going up and battling a corner for the football which results in him winning more contested catches than he loses. He’s also an aggressive blocker in the running game and that will endear him to Gary Kubiak and the rest of the Vikings offensive coaching staff.

Johnson is likely still on the board because he didn’t exactly nail the draft process. He had to drop out of the East-West Shrine Game and then he opted not to run at this year’s NFL Scouting Combine, participating in positional drills only.

Teams don’t have an accurate measure of his top-end speed and that is an issue. Minnesota now has three choices in the fourth round and investing one on this tough wide receiver would be a solid move for their offense in addition to him becoming an instant fan favorite.
