What to expect from Dye in 2020

The Vikings are relatively set at linebacker for the 2020 season. They can move on from some veterans who have not quite worked out, but they will still rely heavily on Eric Kendricks and Anthony Barr.

Troy Dye will not be expected to make a huge impact on defense because Minnesota has the talent ahead of him at linebacker. If he is on the field, it will likely be for situational coverage and special teams.

There is no early pressure on Dye to impact games on defense for the Vikings, which should be good for him. He has time to develop as a complete player and he gets to learn from two of the best in the game.

Minnesota’s defense is getting younger, so maybe the plan will be for Dye to mesh with some of the younger guys with a bigger picture in mind rather than just the 2020 season.

His rookie season will probably be spent mostly on special teams as a sound tackler in punt and kick coverage. On obvious passing downs, we may see Dye come in as a coverage linebacker while Barr dials up pressure from the edge too.
