Everson Griffen and Seahawks reportedly have mutual interest

There is mutual interest between former Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen and the Seattle Seahawks. Will it result in him signing with them?
During his 10 years in the NFL, Everson Griffen has only suited up in a uniform belonging to the Minnesota Vikings. However, that could change for him in 2020.
Griffen is currently a free agent and he has been since the new league year started back in March. There have been some rumblings of interest from other teams, but nothing has resulted in him signing a new contract for next season.
During a radio interview with Seattle’s 950 KJR on Thursday, NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo stated that, “there has been communication,” recently between Griffen and the Seattle Seahawks.
This is notable since a few weeks ago, it was reported by the Pioneer Press’ Chris Tomasson that the former Minnesota defensive end, “definitely has interest in signing with Seattle,” this year.
Back then, Tomasson mentioned that Griffen ending up with the Seahawks would likely depend on them re-signing Jadeveon Clowney. Currently, Clowney is also a free agent and during his interview on Thursday, Garafolo also mentioned that there has been, “no communication of late,” between him Seattle.
Aside from the fact that it seems like signing with the Seahawks is just what former Vikings players do before the end of their careers, Griffen also has a connection to current Seattle head coach Pete Carroll. Before he entered the NFL, the veteran defensive end played in college for USC and Carroll was his head coach there.
Despite there reportedly being mutual interest between Griffen and the Seahawks, it could still be a while before the two parties even agree to a deal.
The COVID-19 pandemic has eliminated the ability of teams to meet face-to-face with free agents right now and this is something Seattle would probably want to do before signing the veteran pass rusher. Whether it’s with the Seahawks or anyone else, it’s likely going to be a while before Griffen lands with a team for the upcoming season.
