Minnesota Vikings Player No. 2: S Anthony Harris

The Vikings used the franchise tag on safety Anthony Harris this offseason but haven’t been able to agree to a long-term contract with him. If they can’t work something out prior to the start of the 2020 season, he could be in his last season with the team.

It would be a shame because Harris has developed into a very good player. In his last two seasons, he’s started 23 games and has accumulated nine interceptions, 106 total tackles and 17 pass breakups. He excels in coverage and has the ability to shut down the man he’s covering. Teams simply quit throwing the ball his way, as it usually ends up in a pass break up or a turnover.

The Vikings had been looking for a safety to pair with Harrison Smith for years before Harris emerged and took over that role. It would be tough to see him go and then start that search all over again. With their current cap situation, the Vikings may be forced to choose between Harris and running back Dalvin Cook as far as contract extensions go.

If they choose the running back, Harris could be in a new uniform in 2021.
