Vikings aren’t NFC favorites

During the recent past, most of the players to win the NFL MVP each season have been a part of a team that was a bit of a surprise when it came to their level of success.

Aside from Tom Brady winning the award in 2017, Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, Patrick Mahomes, and Lamar Jackson did not enter their respective MVP seasons with the top odds to win the trophy. In addition, none of them were on teams who many viewed as potential Super Bowl contenders either.

Kirk Cousins and this year’s Vikings team share a lot of similarities to these four recent MVP winners and the teams they played for.

These recent MVPs were part of teams who ended up exceeding their expectations by a wide margin. If this were the path Cousins would take to winning the MVP in 2020, he would likely have to lead Minnesota to the best record in the NFL next season, or at least the best record in the NFC.

Is this something that is attainable for the Vikings in 2020? Of course it is. Minnesota definitely has the talent to put together a surprising run that few saw coming like in 2017 and 1998. And if they do, it could result in Cousins being the guy to win next season’s MVP trophy.
