5 Vikings assistants who could be a head coach in 2021
By Nik Edlund

Adam Zimmer
Adam Zimmer is the other young up and coming coach on the Vikings’ staff who could benefit from the recent trend of hiring youthful head coaches. Zimmer is the son of Vikings’ head coach Mike Zimmer, but this isn’t just a case of nepotism. Adam Zimmer has put his time in and taken his coaching licks and has worked hard to become the Vikings co-defensive coordinator.
Zimmer got his start in coaching with the Saints as an assistant linebackers coach back in 2006. He was on the staff for their Super Bowl win and then went onto the Chiefs in the same position. Zimmer then moved on to Cincinnati, to help his dad coach the Bengals defensive backs.
He followed his father to the Vikings and is going on his seventh season with the team. Zimmer has been in charge of the Vikings linebackers and has done great work with players like Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks. He also has to be given credit for Eric Wilson’s development who is now a starter after joining the team as an undrafted free agent.
