Connection to Vikings: Eric Kendricks

Two years ago, Minnesota had a meeting with free-agent linebacker Mychal Kendricks. After spending the first six seasons of his NFL career with the Philadelphia Eagles, Kendricks had the opportunity to suit up with his brother, Eric, for the Vikings defense.

In the end, a deal was never made and Kendricks eventually signed with the Seattle Seahawks. He spent the last two years with the Seahawks and in 2019, he started 14 games. During his time on the field last season, he managed to accumulate 71 tackles, four pass breakups, three sacks, one interception, and one forced fumble.

Unlike his brother though, Kendricks was not very good in pass coverage last season. He allowed a completion percentage of 85.7 and opposing quarterbacks had a rating of 104.4 when targeting players covered by the linebacker.

For Minnesota, Kendricks would be a good addition to improve the team’s overall depth at linebacker. But he would likely be backing up his brother or Anthony Barr and at this point in his career, he might not want to give up being a starter.

Kendricks is also dealing with some legal issues right now thanks to pleading guilty to insider trading in 2018. His sentencing for the crime isn’t until October, so that might put a hold on any team like the Vikings who might be interested in signing him for the upcoming season.
