Dakota Dozier – G

The Vikings guard situation heading into the 2020 season has to be the biggest area of concern on this team. It’s really anyone’s guess who the starters will be. After the team failed to adequately address this need in free agency or the draft, many assume the starters will be Pat Elflein and Dru Samia.

That is definitely a possibility but Dakota Dozier has every bit a chance to win a starting job as those two and deserves much more attention. Dozier came off the bench a few times last year as Josh Kline suffered multiple concussions, and played well. The Vikings were able to still move the ball on the ground, and Cousins had plenty of time in the pocket.

Dozier did get four starts in 2019, and those didn’t go as well as the times he came in as a sub. All four of those starts came against teams with very good defensive lines, and Dozier was simply overmatched at times.

It is entirely possible that Dozier’s best role on this team is as a backup. That’s what he’s been the majority of his career, and that’s just fine. However, he has a very strong shot to earn a starting job in 2020, and there should be more attention given to that fact in Minnesota Vikings’ circles.
