Which Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks have been the best at throwing deep in the last 25 years?

There is a statistical criteria for this. It is not based on an eye-test. An essential disclaimer to the following rankings is that these Minnesota Vikings quarterbacks are not incentivized or penalized for anything pertaining to Randy Moss.

The proceeding Vikings signal-callers ranked have no percentage points subtracted because they had the luxury to throw passes to Moss. So, take that with a grain of salt. Although, Moss obviously did wonders for any quarterback launching the ball down the field in his direction.

The top five Minnesota deep-ball passers were determined by a ratio of 40+ yard completions divided by their total pass attempts during their tenure with the team. Additionally, a 400 pass attempt minimum was implemented to avoid scraping in backup quarterbacks.

Also remember, these rankings have no relationship to any of the signal-callers’ performances with other teams. Moreover, the calculation does not factor in “air yards” as that data is difficult to obtain from the 1990s. These are straight from-the-box-score 40+ yard completions.

So who are the best of the best when it comes to throwing the ball deep while wearing a Vikings uniform?
