Should the Vikings call about 49ers wide receiver Dante Pettis?

The Vikings have added a lot of young talent since the 2019 NFL season came to a close. Could they add another young player with plenty of potential via trade before the 2020 season?

The 49ers have continued to add skill players all over the offense, selecting wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in the first round of this year’s draft. In 2019, San Francisco selected Deebo Samuel in the second round and he quickly became a star in their offense.

That leaves 2018 second-round pick Dante Pettis in the doghouse a bit. After a strong rookie season in 2018, Pettis took a back seat in 2019 and looks to do the same this season. Conveniently enough, the Minnesota Vikings have a strong need for an extra weapon in their passing game.

With Justin Jefferson set to emerge as the new star in the offense, and Adam Thielen returning to his role as mentor, the Vikings have a solid base to build on. Beyond those two, however, there are plenty of question marks at wide receiver. Tajae Sharpe and Bisi Johnson can provide quality depth, but neither has shown that they are capable of carrying a heavy workload just yet.

Bringing in more competition will only encourage everyone to get better. The Vikings should be looking for ways to get better and add talent on the cheap, which Pettis provides.

It is not for sure that the 49ers will field offers for Pettis, but the Minnesota Vikings should keep their ears out for the young playmaker. Pettis could be a huge piece for the team as a do-it-all gimmick player with contributions in the return game.

What would it take for this to be a smart move for both sides?
