G Pat Elflein

Some may already consider Pat Elflein a bust and that is hard to argue. The guy has been awful the last two seasons, especially when it comes to pass protection. He is a more than an adequate run blocker and that is likely the only reason he is entering training camp as the projected starting left guard. He’s been a wet piece of toilet paper as a pass blocker and should get pushed for his starting job by one of these young players the Vikings brought in during the offseason.

What makes Elflein so disappointing was how his career started. He came in as a rookie and started 14 games. He played at a very high level during that span and had a mean streak in him and was the physical blocker that he showed during his days as a Buckeye.

One has to wonder if the injuries Efllein suffered at the end of his rookie season are the reason for his decline. He broke his ankle in the NFC Championship debacle against the Eagles, and also had to have surgery on his shoulder that offseason. When he returned to the field after that, the mean, physical player we saw in 2017, wasn’t there anymore.

If Elflein’s play continues the downward spiral it has been in, he definitely will go down in Minnesota Vikings history as a bust. At least he gave the team one good season, which is more than many on this list can say.
