DT Jalyn Holmes

Jalyn Holmes is the one player on this list who might not be considered a bust at season’s end because it will happen long before then. Holmes is a long shot to make the Vikings’ final 53 man roster this year, as he’s done nothing but disappoint since the team drafted him back in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.

Holmes came in with some excitement. The former defensive end of the Buckeye’s was going to be moved inside and be the team’s new three-technique defensive tackle. For whatever reason, Andre Patterson’s tutelage hasn’t seemed to sink in, and Holmes has been very slow to develop.

In his two seasons with the team, Holmes has been on the defensive side of the ball for 131 snaps. In that span, he’s accumulated seven tackles and one sack. That’s a very poor two-year return on a 4th round investment.

The Vikings drafted James Lynch in the fourth round and have impressive Armon Watts returning for his second season. The team also has Michael Pierce, Shamar Stephen, and Jaleel Johnson at the position. There aren’t exactly a plethora of spots available and if Holmes doesn’t impress every single day in camp, he will be cut. If that happens he will go down as one of the Vikings worst fourth-round picks in recent memory.
