Vikings Training Camp 2020: Previewing the quarterbacks
By Chris Schad
What are the interesting quarterback storylines for the Minnesota Vikings heading into camp?
The Minnesota Vikings have had their share of bad luck at the quarterback position over the years. But as they head into the 2020 season, they at least have some stability at the top.
Kirk Cousins remains the starter in Minnesota and after a two-year extension that will keep him around through 2022, the Vikings won’t be going into training camp looking for his replacement.
What happens behind Cousins, however, is a far different story as the Vikings prepare for this year’s training camp.
Current backup Sean Mannion has been a target among the Minnesota fan base in the same way that Initech employees were asked “What is it exactly that you do here?” in the movie, “Office Space”.
After Mannion successfully stiff-armed Kyle Sloter out of the Twin Cities in 2019 with strong practice habits, the Vikings didn’t try to upgrade the position even after drafting Nate Stanley out of Iowa and bringing back prized 2019 UDFA Jake Browning.
In most years, the backup quarterback position didn’t really matter considering Cousins hasn’t missed a game due to injury since becoming a full-time starter in 2015. But with the NFL trying to run a season during a pandemic, what’s behind Cousins may take on an important tone.
So what are some of the notable questions surrounding Minnesota’s current group of quarterbacks as the team heads into training camp?
