3 reasons why the Vikings still haven’t extended Mike Zimmer

Minnesota might want a new head coach in 2021
Despite Mike Zimmer’s success with the Vikings since he arrived in 2014, it’s possible that the front office and ownership might be looking for someone who can get them over the hump in the near future.
Think back to when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers replaced head coach Tony Dungy with Jon Gruden. Dungy helped the Bucs achieve a lot of success during his time as their head coach, but they always seemed to come up just short when the games mattered the most.
So Tampa Bay decided to switch things up and they brought in Gruden to be the new leader of their team. The Bucs immediately responded to their new head coach and it resulted in the franchise winning the Super Bowl in Gruden’s first season with the team.
Maybe Minnesota looks at a scenario like this and thinks their current team is what Tampa Bay was when Dungy was their head coach.
Perhaps the Vikings already have their eyes on someone like Mike Tomlin or Sean McVay who could potentially get the franchise over the hump and help them win their first-ever Super Bowl.
So while Zimmer has been able to lead Minnesota to a bunch of success during his tenure, it’s possible that the people in the team’s front office don’t view him as the guy who can lead the franchise to the ultimate goal.
