Vikings Rumors: Everson Griffen interested in joining Green Bay Packers
By Adam Patrick
One of the latest Minnesota Vikings rumors has their former pass rusher interested in joining their top rival.
For the majority of the existence of the Minnesota Vikings franchise, their top rival has been the Green Bay Packers. Since they’re both a part of the NFC North division, the two teams meet twice per season and both matchups are some of the biggest games of the year for each franchise.
There have been times in the past when players from either the Vikings or Packers have crossed the border to suit up in the rival colors. Some guy named Brett Favre did it and he almost led Minnesota to the Super Bowl in 2009.
On Monday, it was reported that current free-agent defensive end Everson Griffen could be the latest to play for both the Vikings and the Packers.
Vikings Rumors: Is Everson Griffen’s interest in the Packers real?
According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport on Monday, the former Minnesota pass rusher has received interest from Green Bay this offseason and the interest is apparently mutual.
Yuck. Most Vikings would likely agree that they would be fine seeing Griffen suit up for just about any team in 2020 other than the terrible green and gold.
Now, is the interest actually mutual between the defensive end and the Packers or is Griffen just using this as a tactic for Minnesota to make a bigger effort in re-signing him? This is something that was suggested by The Athletic’s Arif Hasan on Monday and it’s something that is totally possible.
Griffen probably heard Mike Zimmer’s recent comments in which he stated he would, “love,” for the defensive end to return to the Vikings this year. So, maybe the veteran pass rusher is resorting to the jealous ex-girlfriend tactic to get a new contract from Minnesota?
If Griffen does end up signing with the Packers this year, it’s going to be very hard to not throw up at the sight of him in green and gold. Sales of Pepto-Bismol will likely increase throughout the state of Minnesota if the former Vikings pass rusher actually plays for the team’s longtime divisional rival in 2020.
