4 reasons why the Vikings should sign CB Logan Ryan
By Dustin Baker
Ryan is a tackling and sack machine
This is probably the strangest reason why Logan Ryan has not yet been picked up by any NFL team. The man played a prominent role for the Titans defense last season. He was targeted by opposing quarterbacks 114 times in 2019 and this was more than any other cornerback in the business. The man is battle-tested.
And, he’s got the statistics to back it up. Ryan notched 113 combined tackles last year, which led the NFL among cornerbacks.
For perspective, the next closest corners to Ryan’s 113-tackle mark were Tre Flowers and Kyle Fuller, who both had 82 tackles last season. That is a variance of 31 tackles. For cornerbacks, that is a mammoth difference. Ryan also led all cornerbacks in sacks in 2019 with 4.5. Quarterback hits, you ask? He was tops in that, too, with eight.
His 88.7 passer-rating against was quite good last season, but not great. Considering former Vikings corner Xavier Rhodes had a passer-rating-against of 123.8 last year, Minnesota’s front office should welcome Ryan to the depth chart with open horns. Ryan would be a significant upgrade.
