Anthony Barr – LB
Anthony Barr probably wouldn’t be considered overrated if not for the amount of money he currently makes each season.
Barr has been a solid piece of the Vikings defense since he was drafted by the team in 2014. But he was a top 10 pick and his career hasn’t really matched the expectations that come with being that high of a selection.
Barr has been voted to four Pro Bowls in his six seasons with Minnesota. However, he’s never even earned a Second-Team All-Pro selection in his career.
When the Vikings drafted him, Barr’s pass-rushing skills are what excited people about his arrival. But that element of his game has been almost non-existent during the majority of his pro career.
Despite Barr’s failure to live up to his expectations, Minnesota still decided to reward him with a $67 million contract last year. Heading into this season, his average salary ranks as the fourth-highest among 4-3 linebackers around the NFL (Eric Kendrick’s average salary ranks 10th).
Is Barr the fourth-best 4-3 linebacker in the NFL? That’s a simple question to answer and most would agree that he most certainly is not.
