Signal-caller Brett Favre joined the Vikings in the summer of 2009 and the atmosphere of the Twin Cities was wholly ecstatic. Favre was actually sticking it to his former team, the Packers.

And, that he did. Minnesota toppled Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay twice in 2009 on the way to a 12-4 record.

The Vikings 2009 offense ranked second in the NFL behind the New Orleans Saints in points scored with 29 per game. The 470 total points for the season are also the second-most in Minnesota’s franchise history.

Future Hall of Famer Adrian Peterson was in his third season as a pro and led the NFL in touchdowns with 18. Favre was the second-highest rated passer in the business (behind Drew Brees) with a 107.2 passer rating. And then pass-catchers Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin, and Visanthe Shiancoe hauled in the Favre lasers.

In the playoffs, the Vikings would embarrass the Dallas Cowboys in the Metrodome during the divisional round. One week later, Minnesota’s fan base was kicked in the groin during a crushing loss to the aforementioned Saints, just minutes away from a Super Bowl berth.
