Tight ends (3)

  • Tyler Conklin
  • Kyle Rudolph
  • Irv Smith Jr.

Normally, the Minnesota Vikings have a lot of talent lined up at the tight end position but this year should see the team bring only three individuals at that position through to the 53-man roster this season.

Kyle Rudolph is getting paid like a king to be the team’s primary tight end. He should continue to see a lot of time on the field, particularly in the red zone, where he can show off his huge catch radius and leaping ability.

Look for Irv Smith to run more routes underneath and pick up yards after the catch with his speed, shiftiness, acceleration, and elusiveness. Plays involving both Rudolph and Smith are on the field at the same time could keep opposing defenses on their toes.

The third tight end will likely be Tyler Conklin. He is a well-rounded tight end that will likely be last on the pecking order at the position but is still a capable player when his number is called. Past that, Minnesota has no real need for a fourth individual at the position.
