Chad Greenway – LB

Chad Greenway’s legacy with the Minnesota Vikings will live through the ages. The linebacker more than lived up to his billing as the No. 17 overall pick in 2006. And his level of performance combined with exceptional leadership is something that benefitted the franchise considerably.

The former Iowa standout made his presence felt with the Vikings from the moment he stepped onto the field. Greenway was a relentless force at the second level. And this saw a plethora of memorable highlights from a storied ten-year career in Minnesota.

There was nothing Greenway could not do on the field. His high motor ensured that he was around the ball consistently. And his ability in coverage is another element of his game that shouldn’t be overlooked.

This resulted in career stats that are up there with the very best at the position in Vikings’ history. Greenway racked up 1,103 combined tackles, 762 solo tackles, 18 sacks, eight forced fumbles, 42 quarterback hits, and 62 tackles for loss. The player was a two-time Pro Bowler and a primary leader on Minnesota’s formidable defense thanks to the high esteem to which he was held.

His final season in 2016 saw him settle for a more reduced role. So his decision to retire before showing any real decline was the right call.

Greenway gave the Vikings everything during his decade with the organization. And his contribution both on and off the field with not be forgotten.
