Pat Williams – DT

Pat Williams will go down in Minnesota Vikings’ folklore. The imposing defensive tackle formed part of the legendary Williams Wall. And this was the foundation from which the organization constructed one of their greatest ever front sevens.

There were not many opposing offensive linemen that could get the better of Williams. His size was nothing short of astonishing. And this was matched by a strength that has not been since at the position in Minnesota since.

His partnership with Kevin Williams was arguably the NFL’s best defensive tackle tandem for a short period. And their exploits stopping the run were sensational, to put it mildly.

Williams was a prolific presence on the line of scrimmage after arriving in Minnesota from the Buffalo Bills aged 33. While most players at the position are past the peak of their powers by this point. The former Texas A&M star enjoyed a new lease of life with the Vikings.

This resulted in Williams accumulating 294 combined tackles, 210 solo tackles, 7.5 sacks, 12 quarterback hits, 41 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, and 14 pass deflections. He earned three Pro Bowl appearances throughout his career. And the lineman is another that can look back at his outstanding career safe in the knowledge that he walked away at the perfect time.

Those who saw Williams play for the Vikings will not forget just what an impact he made. And his larger than life character allows him to make his presence felt in no uncertain terms.
