Minnesota will have extra help when picking their final roster

This year is like any other for the Vikings and the rest of the NFL due to the elimination of the preseason. Minnesota no longer has the luxury of getting to evaluate their players in actual game situations prior to the regular season.

Instead, the Vikings will have to come up with a 53-man roster and a 16-man practice squad based on what happens during this year’s training camp practices.

However, Minnesota will have a little extra help when it comes time to pick their final roster this summer. Since the team’s college scouts are not currently traveling to check out draft prospects, the Vikings are going to utilize them to help evaluate all of the players on this year’s roster.

Ultimately, the final decisions for who makes and who doesn’t make Minnesota’s regular season roster will rest on the shoulders of general manager Rick Spielman and head coach Mike Zimmer. But will the addition of the college scouts helping with player evaluations result in Spielman and Zimmer potentially overthinking which guys make the cut?
