Cousins led all passers in 50-plus yard touchdowns in 2019

The Viking Age fully understands that wideout Stefon Diggs was a bully in receiving deep touchdowns passes last season and that he no longer plays for the Vikings.

But here’s a secret. Kirk Cousins was delivering bombs long before he met Diggs.

First, the context for the 50-plus yard touchdown statistic. Cousins was the only player in the NFL to finish with more than three touchdowns of 50 yards or more in 2019. He accounted for four such scores.

Tom Brady, Deshaun Watson, Jared Goff, and Josh Allen had a total of four 50-plus yard touchdowns between all of them combined. It’s quite an impressive feat for the Minnesota field general.

In his entire career, Cousins has tossed 20 touchdowns of 50 yards or more. Just four of them saw Diggs on the receiving end. In fact, nine pass-catchers have caught 50-plus yard scores from Cousins.

The marriage of Cousins and Diggs was a fortuitous one, but it was not one-sided. And, if one insists that it was, the upper hand goes to Cousins. He has a track record of distributing the ball deep over five seasons and Diggs broke out in this manner in 2019, with Cousins at the helm.
