7 things the Vikings do better than anyone else in the NFL
By Dustin Baker
Since 2018, Cousins has been the best third-down passer in the second half
Of all quarterbacks that attempted more than 100 passes on third downs in the second half of games since 2018, Kirk Cousins’ downright naughty 117.1 passer rating is the very best in NFL. The second-closest suitor to Cousins in this metric is Dak Prescott, who possesses a 109.7 passer rating in such situations.
And, this is a regular-season statistic. It doesn’t even account for Cousins’ overtime heroics last January down in New Orleans.
In this same metric, Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes boasts a 102.1 passer rating. So, Cousins’ presence atop this parameter is striking. With the second-half, third-down situational metric, the current Vikings quarterback has produced nine touchdown passes. That’s more than Matt Ryan (eight), Drew Brees (five), and Deshaun Watson (five).
Cousins has been clutch for Minnesota. A refusal to acknowledge this blatantly (and strangely) ignores mathematics. Roll the tape from the aforementioned playoff game in New Orleans or the Week 11 contest against the Broncos from last year if further evidence is required.
