6. Atlanta Falcons at Minnesota Vikings (2014, Week 4)

  • End of 3rd Quarter Score: 28-27, Falcons
  • Final Score: 41-28, Vikings

Fans reflect on this contest with ardor because it was the very first start of Teddy Bridgewater’s career. He was a 21-year-old rookie that had freshly assumed leadership of the team because veteran Matt Cassel was lost to injury one week prior.

Bridgewater shined. He threw for 317 passing yards and 98.9 passer rating and even rushed for a touchdown. Scatback Jerick McKinnon contributed 152 yards from scrimmage while halfback Matt Asiata popped off for 100 yards from scrimmage of his own and three touchdowns. Wideout Jarius Wright was Bridgewater’s primary target hauling in eight catches for 132 yards.

This match-up was not pretty if you’re a fan of defense. Between the two teams, a total of 969 offensive yards were gained, a true head-scratcher for a game involving Mike Zimmer. In terms of combined yards between two teams in a single game, it is the second-most of any Vikings game with Mike Zimmer in charge. A 2018 contest versus the Rams tallied a combined 1,002 yards.

Minnesota trailed Atlanta 28-27 entering the final quarter. Asiasta scored, kicker Blair Walsh booted through two field goals, and the Vikings downed the Falcons 41-28 at TCF Bank Stadium.
