Earl Watford – OL

The Minnesota Vikings appear willing to go into another season with Pat Elflein as one of their starting guards. This seems bemusing given his standard of play over the last two campaigns. And it is clear this is his final chance to forge a successful career with the organization.

This could become an area of real concern for the Vikings in 2020. Dakota Dozier could start at the other guard position. And Minnesota also has the option of moving second-round pick Ezra Cleveland onto the interior during his initial transition to the next level.

Another option that the Vikings have is to bring in an established veteran who could contribute right away. Earl Watford has been a solid if not spectacular performer in recent seasons. And an argument can be made that he represents an upgrade over both current starting options in Minnesota.

Watford did not give up a sack from 322 snaps in 2019. This resulted in a 64.9 grade from Pro Football Focus. And the former fourth-round pick has accumulated 25 career starts over six seasons in the NFL.

Bringing him in for a tryout seems like a smart move at this point. And Watford is experienced enough to know what would be at stake if presented with such an opportunity.
