Myth No. 5

Minnesota never blows anybody out

This one is a bit interpretive as one’s definition of a blowout can differ from person to person.

Similar to the high-octane offense commentary from before, the Mike Zimmer-led Vikings do not possess the 1998 version of their offense that eviscerates teams by 20 or 30 points. It’s just not the pace of play that Zimmer endorses, at all.

But Minnesota does dispose of teams handily. Since 2015, Minnesota has the third-most victories of 14 points or more over opponents. Out of the 50 wins the Vikings have had in the last five years, 21 of these have been by at least 14 points. Only the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs have more wins by 14-plus points since 2015.

Therefore, Minnesota wins mightily when victorious. They just don’t run up the score like a pinball machine. In the pinball regard, the Vikings had won five games in the last five seasons by at least 24 points and that is 13th-most in the league.

Here’s a fun fact. Since 2015, the Packers have won just one matchup by 24 points or more. The only time it happened was in 2016 when they downed the Seahawks by a final score of 38-10.
